Hello folks.
How about another installment of Alli Arnold Goes To Ireland?
The three of us did an overnighter to Galway.
You know Galway...gateway to the Aran Islands? Part of the Gaeltacht, where Irish is widely spoken? Home of dodgy tea-kettles? Ireland's largest western city? Or perhaps you are familiar with it due to its freakishly large swan population?
Lovely city...
...a lovely city where it seems we somehow took almost NO pictures, though we did manage to get an awful lot around the waterfront.
The River Something-or-Other, flowing under the Whatayacallit Bridge into The Ocean or Other Large Body of Water.
Maybe it was the swans' fault? Just like America's Next Top Model contestants they are nasty creatures, no matter how pretty.
Ummm, yeah, more waterfront.Me, demonstrating my bizarrely inhuman strength by dragging this huge anchor around the...you guessed....waterfront.
Galway's pedestrian and tourist friendly downtown is really quite adorable. Like Dublin only a little more chilly, a little less crowded, a little more charming. We did succeed in taking this picture as we wandered from restaurant to pub to tourist office to gift shop to...well....you get the point no? Anyway...these guys were tossing fire around. Cool beans.
After breakfast Chris and Alli wandered over to nearby Claddagh. Used to be a fishing village but has now been incorporated into Galway proper. And in Claddagh...
Chris pumped gas. Duh!
We planned to spend day two in Galway with an outing to the Aran islands but I started coming down with something so we cut our trip a little short and took the early train back to The Dub. No worries though, Chris gave me my medicine as soon as we got home and I was feeling fine the next day.
A picture we snapped from the train. The natives have a laugh at our going gaga over crap like this but what can I say? We Americans love the old stuff. I also get excited over sheep in a field, the as-yet-unseen bogs, stacked stone walls and old graveyards.
(That last bit is what's known as a teaser in the blogging biz. Look for a Powerscourt entry in which our heroines, Alli & Kelly, break into an old cemetery where they may or may not have gotten beset upon by a group of undead swans. How ghoulish!!)
